Galentine's Day Soirée

A Galentine's Day Soiree: ladies celebrating ladies

This idea was in the works for quite some time - more than a year, in fact! I loved the idea of throwing a Galentine's Day party, and thought it would be an appropriate time to gather some of the female business owners in the community whom I admire so much. Some of these amazing women I've known through various channels and some were new acquaintances. I know there are many more inspiring women in our community, and I wish we could have included them all!

Who knew some jumbo heart innertubes could be such amazing photo props!?

But what is Galentine's Day, you ask? Amy Poehler's "Parks & Rec" character, Leslie Knope, explained it best (and I'm paraphrasing here): 'Oh, it's only the best day of the year. Every February 13th, my lady friends and I leave our husbands and boyfriends at home and we just come and kick it. Ladies celebrating ladies. It's like Lilith Fair minus the angst.'

I've said it before, and I will definitely say it again: one of my favorite aspects of this business has been the opportunities for collaboration with fellow small businesses. This party would not have been complete without the treats from Oh So Sweet by Tiphanie. Beautiful and delicious, as always - we're so fortunate to have Tiphanie as our neighbor, and I love that we continue to find new ways to work together! At the event, we started talks for a spring-time event with some other lovely ladies (stay tuned)!

Setting the scene with all things girly!

Now onto the party details. I went all-in on the theme with an abundance of pink and red, hearts and flowers! It was overtly feminine and a bit over the top, but I loved how it all came together. I knew this group of women would appreciate all the special details! Florals were an eclectic mix of pinks, reds and purples from Flowers by Jerri. Pink and red linens were provided by L Couture Linens. We concocted a signature cocktail, aptly called The Boss Lady, and garnished champagne coupes of Rosé with sugar lips candies. The menu consisted of Chicken Salad Tea Sandwiches, Tomato Basil Bruschetta, Spinach Salad, and mini versions of our featured dessert for Valentine's Day, the Strawberry Stack (a serious contender for our spring/summer menu), with some candies sprinkled in for good measure.

What an honor to be in the company of these women. All are contributing to the Quad Cities and surrounding communities in their own way! These women aren’t just inspiring in the ways they conduct themselves with their family life or careers, but they are often doing good and serving people around them. Ladies celebrating ladies, simple as that!
